Abstract

Injury to the posterior root of the meniscus is a pathology that requires a high index of suspicion by clinicians to make this diagnose. Therefore, it is paramount that the orthopaedic surgeon has a good knowledge of its epidemiological, clinical and imaging characteristics. After biomechanical studies have compared the pattern of load distribution on knees presenting this lesion with knees submitted to meniscectomy, a greater effort has been made to the develop techniques aiming to repair these structures, so important to maintain the meniscus ability in converting the axial load into circumferential hoop stress. The purpose of this paper is to describe a reproducible technique to repair the posterior root of the medial meniscus, using a suture passer through an accessory posteromedial portal.
