Total ankle arthroplasty when indicated correctly is an effective surgical treatment alternative for cases of ankle osteoarthritis. The ideal indication for this procedure is arthrosis of the ankle (primary or secondary) with good bone quality, good alignment of the leg-foot, good ligamentar stability and decreased mobility, but preserved the ankle. Another special indication includes patients with osteoarthritis of the bilateral ankle. A case of total ankle a case of total ankle arthroplasty in a patient with advanced painful ankle posttraumatic arthrosis is shown.
