Abstract

The high-energy tibial plateau fractures are associated with severe joint commitment and occur mainly in young and usually patients with multiple injuries. The most popular treatment has been open reduction and internal fixation with double plate, but is associated with many complications. The authors report the case of a patient with soft tissue injury and joint involvement where we performed treatment with circular external fixator. The proposal was that during treatment modular parts of fixator were taken to increase the knee range of motion and decrease system weight. We obtained to excellent range of motion with full extension of the joint with rehabilitation from the first weeks after surgery.
