Abstract

Crouch knee gait is a common abnormality in patients with cerebral palsy, and consists of increased knee flexion in the stance phase. Several causal factors can be related to the development of crouch knee gait, which frequently leads to patella alta and extensor mechanism insufficiency. The patellar advancement procedures have the purpose to promote re-tensioning of the quadriceps, aiming to improve knee extension in terminal stance. The authors present a case of a patient with cerebral palsy who underwent a patellar tendon shortening procedure as part of the surgical plan to correct crouch knee gait.
