Abstract

One of the most commonly used devices for treating intertrochanteric fractures is the cephalomedullary nail. One of the complications that can occur is cut-out. The clinical case is of a 74-year-old female patient treated with a short cephalomedullary nail, where implant failure occurred and was subsequently revised by a total hip arthroplasty. In the postoperative clinical evaluation, accompanied by radiographic evaluation, it was suggested that inadequate positioning of the cephalic screw associated with poor bone quality were the main causes of osteosynthesis failure. We present this case with a detailed description to highlight the proper use of this specific nail with a brief review of the literature.
